It is a gift to share my passion and experience with students in your school or studio. As a Theatre Educator, I bring my experience from the Commedia School in Copenhagen, my studies in clown from various teachers, from solo performance (notably from the ineffable Sara Porkalob), and my training and work in Race & Social Justice to students of all ages.
I specialize in teaching clown, mime, Commedia dell'arte, improvisation, partner acrobatics, personal performance, mask work, movement (from traditions of LeCoq, Grotowski, and Suzuki & Viewpoints), and traditional acting technique. I have been an educator at various schools in the greater Seattle area--namely at Studio East for the Performing Arts--and across the pond in Devon, England. I am now am seeking teaching opportunities in the City of Chicago.
My philosophy:
Telling our own stories in an incredibly potent tool, which not only allows us to connect more deeply with ourselves, but also empowers us with the ability to listen openly to others' experiences. I give my students the space, time, and the language to tell these stories--whether solo or with collaborators. This language goes beyond text, stretching into the use of stillness and silence. As Bill Bowers once put it " when you sit in silence, something happens. A lot of people end up feeling more than they ever imagined."
Beyond solo work, I specialize in teaching devised theatre - cultivating a collaborative space for my students to develop new work as an ensemble. I work to pinpoint and highlight each student's individual strengths and passion, and giving the ensemble tools to harness and weave together their collective talents into more imaginative storytelling.
Whether using silence or Shakespeare, I relish watching my students make discoveries, and give themselves permission to express and create with courage.
